The Council’s company has been run by TDC’s Conservative Leader and Cabinet for the last 2 years - 70% of its existence. If money was wasted, whose fault was that?
The UK’s Audit Commission knew……….and said so in a scathing report. In October 2010, Council Leader Neil Stock admitted his responsibility for “hard-hitting criticism from the Audit Commission” in a statement to the press.
Part of the “sharpening of…focus” promised by Councillor Stock involved appointing a 7th director to the Board of INTend, leaving only 2 paid employees working for the company. With the 13 directors of the joint ECC/TDC Coastal Renaissance Board also having authority over the company, the ratio of directors to employees was increased to 10 to 1.
At its inception, INTend had capacity for up to 11 directors (the 6 founding political leaders and 5 independent directors) - although Neil Stock and his colleague, Steven Henderson, resigned from their political groups’ allocated seats within a few weeks of being appointed, leaving a maximum of 9.
However, not only did each of the remaining directors have considerable specific (unpaid) duties themselves, but there were up to 21 employees working for the company in various capacities.

The unfortunate thing is that an eighth director has now been appointed (Cllr Stock’s wife, Cllr. Candy), yet the company still only has two members of staff. Regrettably, there is no information of any sort for ratepayers to make their own judgements on INTend’s new website:
